What do Michelle Obama and Usain Bolt Have in Common?
By Jackie Burns Sympatico/MSN Shopping Contributor
Puma's on a roll. Usain "Lightning" Bolt sported their sneakers as he ran away with three gold medals during last year's Olympic Games. Now the athletic footwear brand is being embraced by another pair of famous feet. American First Lady Michelle Obama recently stepped out in a pair of denim and dandelion coloured Pumas while working with fifth-grade students from Bancroft Elementary School in the White House garden. Along with her $55 sneakers, Obama wore straight leg pink pants and a striped tank top with matching floral cardigan. Even while gardening this girl can still make fashion wires! The First Lady's latest shoe fetish is a much more affordable option for those following her ever fashion move; far more attainable than the $540 Lavin trainers she was spotted wearing while volunteering at the Capitol Area Food Bank recently. Clearly Mrs. Obama doesn't discriminate when it comes to fashion and being seen as someone who can rock a Jason Wu designer gown one day and a comfy J. Crew cardigan the next makes her all the more appealing to the masses. Michelle in 2012?

you mean people actually care what Michelle Obama wears when she is gardening
Posted by: Lyn | Jun 25, 2009 6:27:32 AM
Good question Jack. Apparently what's going on in the world right now is not important, but her shoes are.

Ye gods. what is this stupid fascination with irrelevant things. I don't care if she wears pumps, heels or hobo shoes made out of kittens. There has to be more in the world to report on. 'How's that Gaza thing coming along?' 'Oh. I don't know. but Michelle Obama wears pumas!'

Obviously some geek in publicity want to earn bonus points
Get a life man stop being a parasite and get a real job help put USA back on its feet instead of reporting BS

Idiots! This is the shopping/fashion section! Of course they are going to be reporting on what famous people are wearing! You want to read about Gaza, go to world news!

Michelle is simply beautiful. My friends and I care about her shoes. Also I think her husband is wonderful. So are the kids and Bo the pup.
Posted by: cindy | Jun 25, 2009 5:00:41 PM
Michelle is beautiful? Good lord. She reminds me of a gorilla. Her big-eared, goofy husband will go down in history as the worst President ever. He is destroying the country.
Posted by: Steve | Jun 25, 2009 6:05:16 PM
Making irrelevant remarks about people's personal appearance is a sign of ignorance, especially if the remarks aren't even close to being true. So right away your credibility is ruined. Country destroyed? Well we'll see, George W and associates already did their best to cater to the rich at the expense of the country. If America ever comes back to what it was is unlikely but if anybody can turn things aroound, it would be a great President like Obama is.

Michelle looks good in any type of clothings /shoes. She is a down to earth womwn and I do not think that she cares about what she wears. What ever she goes to her closet and decide to wear thats what she will wear. GO MICHELLE;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Posted by: cindy | Jun 25, 2009 8:54:02 PM
Hey Steve. How is Michelle's looks "irrelevant"? It is the topic of the article. Don't be a dullard. Ooops - too late. When you say that George W "catered to the rich" you've just exposed your total political ignorance. Obama just spent 13 trillion dollars in his first MONTH of his presidency - that is more money than all previous presidents put together - money the US does not have. And it is all getting flushed down the toilet on make-work-type-projects that will do little or nothing to help the economy which Obama had a huge hand in causing the ruin of even before he became prez. Trying reading other news other than Michelle's shoes.
Michelle is "down to earth" ? OMG, now I've heard everything. She is biggest elitist snob there is going. She embarrasses the title of First Lady.

Google the gown that Michelle wore for the inauguration if you haven't already seen it. It looks like an old shower curtain that someone threw out.
Fashion maven? I don't think so.

Please cut the Obama's some slack, instead of tearing down your leaders you should be supporting them because in the long run whatever decision they make will affect you as well. Cindy here's some food for thought, imagine if it was you in their shoes...
Posted by: cindy | Jun 25, 2009 10:55:06 PM
Janiese, if I were in her shoes, I would tell her husband to stop spending tax payer money on worthless programs that end up being funneled into corrupt government organizations such as Obama's ACORN program.
As for Michelle's shoes, she was recently spotted at a fund raiser for the needy wearing a pair of $540.00 sneakers! This latest photo op is merely an attempt to counter that, showing how she is "just like us", which is a load of BS. Do you honestly think she would lower herself to wear a cheap pair of runners when the camera's weren't invited in to the WH? Nope. She is an elitist snob like her husband who is telling everyone else to "tighten their belts" during this economic downturn while the two of them do things like going on a date night at the taxpayers expense to the tune of $75,000 (read: OTHER people's money). They live by the old "do as I say, not as I do" rule.
If anyone thinks this cheap sneakers photo op is more than just that, they are deluded.

Cindy,
...obama destroying the world? Because Obama became president and all of a sudden there started a reccession? Where the hell have you been? Bush is at fault here. Did we really need all those soldiers in those foreign countrys as long as they have been? He spend Billions A DAY to keep their troops there! Its called security! put up cameras, monitor the skys and be ready for anything. Yea that costs money to but not even close to the amount he spent everyday. This reccession was coming for a while now...Bush just kind of F#$%ed up Obamas Start of presidency. There isnt much going on down there anyways. Yea a couple of roadside bombs, but thats probably the mines we missed the first couple times we drove down that road to kill all the people. That or them sayaing leave us alone...go back to your own country, we need to nurse the sick and gather food. There is no need for us to stay there...those countryies are as weak as ever now.
anywho...Obama (since he became president) has been taking troops out of there little by little. Good for him. He has been and will be in future years great for The United States.

I think you guys are missing the point. It's not about the shoes or her fashion sence. It's about representing the masses as opposed to a single group which happen to be wealthy white people. She is showing her versitility in spending. People think that they have to live beyond their means to mimic someone who is in authority and very much respected. I applaud and respect her more for that.
Think outside the box people.

Publicity is all what Michelle cares, she is not going to improve the country or the world with what she wears but with what she gives for others to wear, especailly for those who are in need here in her own country.
I understand that this is the fashion session and that there are so many comments about what Michelle wears (her dresses, shoes, pants, colors, etc.). Her husband makes enough money for her to wear anything she wants. Talk about fashion of Obama's people in Kenya and see what they wear and see if Michelle will do something for them.
Publicity is the work of someone who doesn't have anything to do but making himself a looser, instead look what these people like Michelle can do for other who are in need.

This message is for Cindy. You don't call a person gorilla. I don't know how you look like but people who treat other people and call them names like you did is DISGUSTING. I am not from the United States but I think President Obama is doing a great job and I think he will be a good president. And, also, Michelle's inagural gown is beautiful.
So, Cindy, keep your mouth shut!

Please. Have some patience with poor Cindy. She's obviously intellectually challenged. Thank goodness we wouldn't be so rude as to call someone hostile, biased, ignorant, or frothing at the mouth stupid.

We the people need to focus on more important matters than what one wears on their feet. How about to focus on the economy? Is it any better now since Obama's are in the white house? No! If only the less wealthy people could afford what Michelle Obama wears, we will all have a very good day. Just to think of no money matters and all the buss on "what to wears today"

This country continues have a few shallow folks which seems to be the ones we focus on let us ignore those and focus on the ones who try to improve lives and do good this refers to folks from all walks of life This is a fashion section, and yes The Lady bring a different type of fashion to the white House.
